I figure I'll start this thread here, and see what comes of this...
I started my very first FWD Mini Stock back in 2012 race season. I bought a car out of Northern California that was already a proven fast car, so, I didn't do a damn thing to it. It was a 92 Civic Coupe. It had oem struts, and aftermarket springs, stock sway bar and links, and a pretty decent cage. The guy had the old, carb Accord motor on it, since the track they were at wouldn't allow EFI. I ended up swapping in a LS motor and had a great season with that incredible little car. Since then, I've built 5 other mini's for me, and helped dial in and work on countless other FWD Mini Stocks and Hornets. Now, it's time for me to move up.
But, where do I go? What are my options for FWD racing? Hornets to Mini's? Then Mini's to... shouldn't we go to Street Stocks? Street Stocks are popular all across the country. Sure, they may have different names, but they are basically 1970's and early 80's Camaro's and Monte Carlo's, right? You betcha! Well, I talked to the Track Owner and race director at my local track, Meridian Speedway, and told them about this crazy idea I have. I wanna build a mid 2000's (or newer, if I can find the right car) v6 FWD sedan as a Street Stock and go compete with the big v8's. And son of a gun, they are gonna let me!
Here's the hurdle... the current rules do not allow efi, fwd, or any thing like I wanna do. So, they are going to let me work on morphing the Mini Stock rules, which do allow for FWD, and blend those rules into the existing Street Stock rules, and see what I can come up with! There was talk of a nice little weight break, since I'll be a good 100 hp and tq under those guys, but hell, even with no weight break I'd go after this! Talk about a dream come true!
So, which car am I gonna chose? Hell if I know. I'm shopping like mad right now. My gut say's Honda Accord or Nissan Maxima. But, I'm kinda open to what ever will come my way, I guess.
At any rate, this is my goal this season to see what I can come up with, and how it can all go down to make me a car that can compete with 40 year old American Muscle!
